Introduction to Computers – 6 two-hour sessions

Learn how to get started using a computer, how to use the Windows operating

system, terminology and basic keyboarding and mouse skills. You will also learn

some basic word processing and be able to create and save anything you write,

from letters to poetry. No experience is needed. It’s easier than programming your

VCR!

Introduction to the Internet – 6 two-hour sessions

Demystify the Internet! Learn how to navigate the Internet and use email to keep

in touch with your friends and relatives. Not a lecture, this class is all hands on

learning with a high speed Internet connection. You will open your own free email

account to send and receive email from friends, and relatives. Prerequisite: You will

need to know some basic computer skills, such as how to use a mouse and keyboard,

how to turn the computer on and off and some basic skills in using the Windows

operating system.

Surfing, Shopping & Beyond: Getting the Most Out of the Internet – 6 two-hour

sessions

Learn how to search the Internet effectively and advanced email techniques like

creating your own stationary and sending photographs and documents to friends

and relatives. Navigate through shopping sites and know what to look for to ensure

your privacy and security are protected. Participate in online communities through

message boards and chat rooms.

Let’s Do Windows – 6 two-hour sessions

Become more proficient in using the Windows operating system and taking care of

your computer. You’ll learn to customize your desktop and create shortcuts. Work

with the Windows file structure to better manage your files and folders. You will also

learn how to use Defrag and ScanDisk to keep your computer running smoothly and

efficiently. Tips and tricks for working with Windows will make using your computer

easier and more fun.

Introduction to Microsoft Word – 6 two-hour sessions

Learn skills that are used in all word processing programs, such as creating, saving

and retrieving documents, inserting and deleting text, formatting text, using MS Word

menus and using cut, copy and paste. You should have some experience with the

computer and using the Windows operating system.

Intermediate Microsoft Word – 6 two-hour sessions

Before you attend this course, you should take Introduction to Word, or be familiar

with basic features and functions of Microsoft Word. This course focuses on

Intermediate Word skills including: formatting longer documents, using clipart,

using templates and styles, creating and editing tables and using the Mail Merge

Wizard.

Introduction to Microsoft Excel – 6 two-hour sessions

This class teaches Microsoft Excel basics. Excel is a spreadsheet program that helps

you manage financial information. It is frequently used in today’s workplace. Once

you begin to understand the basics you will find it is an easy application to learn and

it can be fun to use. You can use a spreadsheet to budget your personal finances or

keep track of your investments. You can follow loan repayments or compare the

benefits of different mortgages, create invoices, and much, much more.

Introduction to PowerPoint – 4 two-hour sessions

Microsoft PowerPoint is a software program for creating and showing presentations

that includes slides, outlines, speaker's notes, and audience handouts. This course

offers beginners a fun and easy way to learn the fundamentals of PowerPoint so you

too can create your own presentations. You will learn how to create a presentation

using text, pictures and clip art and edit it to make it look professional. Whether you're

doing marketing presentations or creating slide shows for your own use, the only

limitations are you and your computer. General knowledge of the Windows operating

system and some knowledge of Microsoft Word are recommended prerequisites.

Introduction to Microsoft Publisher – 6 two-hour sessions

Microsoft Publisher is a desk-top publishing program that is part of the Microsoft

Office suite of programs. It helps you easily create, customize, and publish materials

such as newsletters, brochures, flyers and catalogs. This course focuses such skills as

designing page layout, creating master pages, using design guidelines, creating styles,

inserting pages, text and pictures and using format painter.

Getting Acquainted with the Computer – 1 to 2 two-hour sessions

Never tried a computer before? Wondering what all the excitement is about? Join this

two hour class and find out a bit about computers. This is a hands-on class that will

acquaint you with a computer for the first time.

Computer Survival Skills – 1 to 2 two-hour sessions

Come to this two hour class and find out how you can keep your computer running

and troubleshoot minor problems. This class is hands-on and requires that you have

previously used a mouse and keyboard.

Exploring the Internet – 1 to 2 two-hour sessions

The Internet is more than just a place to send and get email. Come to this two hour

class and learn the best way to search for the information you want. You will actually

get to try out some search strategies online

Keeping Your Mail Organized – 1 to 2 two-hour sessions

You’ve been using your computer for email for some time now, but things are getting

messy. How do you keep your email organized? And how do you deal with all that

annoying junk mail? This class will teach you about your email address book and junk

mail filters.

Looking at Windows – 1 to 2 two-hour sessions

Refresh the skills you need to work with the Windows operating system or just learn

some simple things about Windows. You will actually get to try out resizing and

manipulating Windows and rearranging the Desktop, along with several other

commands that are useful for beginning computer users.

Safety First: Privacy and Security Online – 1 to 2 two-hour sessions

The Internet provides us with powerful tools to shop, instant message with friends,

send email to family and even talk to strangers in chat rooms. However, it also creates

some threats to our privacy. Learn about using passwords, good security habits, virus

protection, firewalls and much more. Knowing how to protect yourself online can go a

long way towards making the use of the Internet safer.

Online Job Searching – 2 two-hour sessions

Are you looking for a new or part-time job? In today’s world, the Internet is an

important resource in the search for work. Come to this class and learn how to look

for available jobs online, post your resume online and communicate with prospective

employers. Some experience using the Internet and basic computer experience is

recommended.

Your Resume – 2 two-hour sessions

If you are thinking about returning to the workforce, transitioning to a part-time job

or making a change in your life, you may want to upgrade your resume or create a

new one. Learn the basics of professional resume writing and avoid the errors that

are common on many resumes. You will leave this class with a professional looking

resume that you can post online or send to prospective employers. Some knowledge

of Microsoft Word and the windows operating system are a prerequisite.

Healthy Living Online – 1 to 2 two-hour sessions

This one hour hands-on computer class will help you find resources for health related

issues. It will also teach you how to be wary of inaccurate websites dealing with health

topics.

Me, My Family and I: Genealogy Online – 1 to 2 two-hour sessions

Genealogy can be fun and rewarding but there is so much information on the Internet

that you may be asking yourself, "Where do I begin?" and "What will work for me?"

This course is designed as an introduction to online genealogy to help you learn

vocabulary, get organized and begin to sort through all the possibilities. You will go

on to do your own research and draw your own conclusions.

Picture This: An Introduction to Digital Photography – 1 or 2 two-hour sessions

Would you like to be able to send and receive pictures of your family and friends

through email? Digital photography lets you do just that. Photographs are easy to

take, view, save and send with a digital camera, some software and a computer. This

course will introduce you to the vocabulary, concepts and equipment you need to be a

digital photographer.

Going, Going Gone: An Introduction to eBay – 1 or 2 two-hour sessions

Buying and selling items online is a fun and easy way to shop and sell. eBay is the

largest and most active auction site on the Internet, featuring everything from books to

cars. This class will help you navigate your way through the ins and outs of eBay,

whether you want to buy, sell or simply window shop.
